Title: Celebrating One Hundred Years of Stainless Steel
Speaker: Gary Coates, Garcoa Metallurgical Services
2012 is the Centenary for the development of stainless steels,
marking when the first patents were awarded in Germany for two stainless
steel grades. The presentation will discuss the historical developments
by metallurgists in France, Germany, G.B. and the U.S. that led to the
commercialization of stainless steels, and then follow the early
successful applications and acceptance by both consumers and industry.
These will be compared to usage of stainless steels today and proposed
uses in the future that bring in the element of sustainable
development.
