Topic: Corrosion Solutions for the Pulp and Paper Industry

Abstract: Three kinds of corrosion problems will be described that have been successfully solved over the past few years. Aggressive water recycling made bleach plants more corrosive; electrochemical protection and new stainless steels were introduced to gain much better pitting resistance. Unexpected caustic cracking in carbon steel digesters required a different electrochemical solution, anodic protection as well as protective coatings. In paper mills, bigger faster machines were introduced to make much brighter paper, and older materials such as bronze and martensitic steel needed to be replaced by higher stainless grades. The critical step in solving all of these problems was to identify the fundamental corrosion mechanisms which will be outlined in this talk.

Please RSVP to Richard Buckley (buckleyrp@gmail.com) or Jessica Mager (jmager@acuren.com) before September 7th, 2012 if you are interested in attending.
